💬 Partnership Over Prescription

Who in your world needs partnership more than advice this week?
In nursing — and really, in life — progress happens when we stop trying to fix people and start walking with them.
Imagine being handed a diagnosis you barely understand. Where did it come from? How did I get it? Will I be on medication forever?
Take something like thyroid disease. I tell patients all the time: if that goes sideways, the effects can be limitless — both good and bad.
Medication management seems simple… until it’s not. Take a pill once a day, on an empty stomach, an hour before meals. Easy, right? Until one or two doses are missed… or taken with breakfast… or taken late.
One of my patients had been perfectly managed for months — then missed a few doses. Their TSH shot from 3–4 all the way to 99. They landed in the ER, completely wiped out.
When they followed up with me, I didn’t lecture. I offered to call or text every day for a while. And I did. Before long, that TSH was safely back on earth.
It didn’t take threats or scolding — just understanding and partnership. Because sometimes all we need is someone to walk beside us until we find our footing again.
